Okay, so, I finally got around to messing with my knitting machine again. You know, the one I bought a while back and then kinda forgot about? Yeah, that one. This time, I wanted to figure out what kind of yarn works best with it. I mean, I tried a few different ones before, but it was all pretty hit or miss. So, I decided to actually, you know, put some effort into it.
First thing I did was dig through my yarn stash. I’ve got a ton of it, mostly leftover from various crochet projects. I grabbed a few different types: some acrylic, some wool, and even a weird cotton blend I picked up on sale once. I figured I’d just try them all and see what happened.
I started with the acrylic yarn. That was pretty smooth and easy to work with because it is the cheapest yarn. It’s man-made, you know. It went through the machine okay, no major snags or anything. But the fabric it made was kinda…meh. Not super soft, and a little stiff, if you know what I mean. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. It is very easy to clean, though. I threw it in my washing machine, and it was okay.

Next, I tried the wool yarn. That’s all-natural. This one was a little trickier. It kept getting caught in the machine, and I had to keep stopping and starting. It was a real pain. But, when it did work, the fabric was really nice. Super soft and warm, way better than the acrylic. It seemed like the machine was having a tough time with the thickness or something, though.

The Blend Yarn Test
Finally, I tried that weird cotton blend. This one surprised me. It went through the machine pretty smoothly, like the acrylic, but the fabric was actually pretty soft, like the wool. It wasn’t quite as soft as the pure wool, but it was way better than the acrylic. It felt like a good middle ground.

So, after all that, I think I’m gonna stick with the cotton blend for now. It seems like the best balance of easy to use and decent quality fabric. I might try some other blends later, though. Maybe something with a little wool mixed in, but not too much. You know, just to see if I can get the best of both worlds. I guess it really is about the type of project and the season. It is not a bad thing to learn about that.
Anyway, that’s my knitting machine yarn experiment. Hope it was helpful for someone out there. Knitting is a good hobby, and I think I will keep doing it in my free time. It is fun.
